Market analysis: reading digital asset cycles without guessing

A framework for market analysis using liquidity, on-chain flows, funding rates and positioning rather than price prediction.

Forecasting price is a poor use of attention. Understanding the conditions that make certain outcomes more or less likely is a better one.

Liquidity conditions

Digital assets are among the most liquidity-sensitive assets available. Real policy rates, central-bank balance sheets and dollar strength explain a large share of multi-quarter direction.

On-chain flows

Exchange balances, stablecoin supply growth and long-term holder distribution show whether supply is moving toward sellers or away from them. These are slow signals; they are useful for positioning, not for timing.

Derivatives positioning

Persistently high perpetual funding rates and elevated open interest indicate crowded leveraged longs, which raises the probability of a liquidation cascade. The reverse also holds.

Volatility regime

Realised volatility clusters. Extended compression is typically resolved by an expansion, though direction is not implied. Sizing should scale inversely with volatility so risk stays roughly constant.

Putting it together

None of these indicators is predictive on its own. Used together, they describe a regime — and regime awareness is what keeps position sizes sane through a cycle.
